An Introduction to Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) and Airway Dentistry. Engineering better sleep with Oral Appliances course is designed for dentists who wish to incorporate effective, non-invasive treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders, such as snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), into their clinical practice.

The programme combines theoretical learning with hands-on training, providing a clear understanding of how oral appliances work, how to assess and monitor patients safely, and how to integrate mandibular advancement device (MAD) therapy into daily practice.

Participants will gain practical experience with the OrthoApnea NOA appliance, including prescription and customisation via the ApneaDock online platform, protrusive registration techniques, fitting and adjustment protocols, supported by clinical case discussions and interactive group sessions.

The course will be made up of a mixture of didactic learning and practical “hands-on” experience teaching designed to provide
delegates with:

• An overview of sleep disordered breathing with special reference to the association of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) and snoring.
• Practical advice on introducing DSM service into your practice.
• An explanation of how oral appliances work.
• Protocols to help safely assess and monitor patients.
• A Dental Protection (UK) Ltd and Dental Defence Union approved pre-treatment screening protocol to help select out those patients safe to treat without specialist referral and to identify those worthy of specialist investigation.
• Details of the OrthoApnea NOA oral appliance. It’s concept, design and customisation.
• The knowledge how to prescribe and customise the OrthoApnea NOA using the ApneaDock ‘on line’ platform.
• The surgery and laboratory requirements and procedures required for optimum performance and patient comfort.
• Ways of evaluating treatment.
• ‘Hands On’ experience in practicing protrusive registration techniques using the George Gauge in addition to OrthoApnea NOA fitting and adjustment protocols.
• Clinical case study presentations.
• The opportunity for interactive group discussion.
